I think there may be a setting along the lines of "do not ask for a password" where it's stored in your Gnome Keyring (or similar). Well, you say it has no USB MODEM port... but does the tablet have USB on it?
If so you may be able to get it to play hotspot... there are plenty of apps that do that.
You need only confirm that you can get connected to the usb device as your network source.
