Re: wm player has Anybody been able to install it on linux?
Hi and welcome. I've not tried WMP under Linux with wine as there are many great Linux media players available. When you say, "I have smplayer , vlc and gecko but these don´t work either," how is it they aren't working? Do you have sound at all? If not, did you at one time? Perhaps you simply nee...

Re: Finding any Linux to run on my laptop?
I tried that, but I'm having trouble with dd. Here is the command I am using. I have unmounted the blank memory stick at sdc. The source iso is on another memory stick: /home/steve# dd if="/media/C08D-ABF3/My stuff/debian-live-6.0.5-i386-xfce-desktop.iso" of=/dev/sdc It takes absolutely ages. The ta...

Re: can ubuntu's update manager be hacked?
I think there may be a setting along the lines of "do not ask for a password" where it's stored in your Gnome Keyring (or similar). I don't have an Ubuntu instance to test at the moment and it's too late here to install a VM but if you don't find anything I'll likely have time tomorrow to try it out...

Re: High-End Phone + Open Source OS?
If that's what I'm doomed to be stuck with for the rest of my experience of further getting a MAXX, then no. How is the Galaxy Nexus a more powerful phone, if I may ask? Most sources I've looked at said that MAXX was superior. :P And yes, I am on Verizon Wireless. But I don't to be tracked by the sc...

Re: Creating a Wi Fi hotspot with a 7 inch Android Tab?
Well, you say it has no USB MODEM port... but does the tablet have USB on it?
If so you may be able to get it to play hotspot... there are plenty of apps that do that.
You need only confirm that you can get connected to the usb device as your network source.
Sounds like it should work... good luck!

Re: Sony Vaio and Linux
Advice taken; Thank You TobiSGD I'd rather use the Windows Partition MGR first to shrink and than go and get the ISO of Fedora and burn it to cd/dvd. From there I'll proceed with installing Fedora. I still have to burn the 5 disks (create the recovery media disks)that the Sony documentation advises ...

Re: Help, can't install Ubuntu or Debian on my laptop!

I keep getting the error - (whether I try to install Ubuntu 12.04 or Debian Squeeze) input/output error during read on /dev/sda Also, after I chose "graphical install" with Ubuntu or Debian my flashes several lines (too fast to read entirely) Cod...

Re: Should you install Linux alongside Windows?
If you look at my signature you will see that I have Win 7 Home premium multibooting with 5 different linux distros. I have my 500 GB HDD partitioned with six roughly equal sized partitions (around 22 GB) to accomodate this multiboot setup. The rest of the space is taken up partly by a large NTFS pa...
